Russell Bates takes us into the futuristic home life of tennis legend Roger Federer, as the champion goes into battle with his (seemingly) friendly robot valet. The source of their conflict is how to make the perfect coffee; the answer is with the advanced and sophisticated Jura S8 coffee machine.
Bates blends motion capture & CGI to create an endearing and error-prone robot character, while evoking a funny and naturalistic performance from one of sport's true giants.
Russell says: ‘Roger Federer is every bit the consummate pro and warm, down-to-earth person that his reputation promises. We used a human performer to create the robot character and interact with Roger on set and you can really see the connection between them. This spot was a big technical challenge to execute, but ultimately depended upon capturing spontaneous moments to make it feel real and organic. Shooting in Zurich was such a great pleasure.’
